Warm Hugs Hot Water Bottle Cover Pattern

Updated: May 30

The Warm Hugs Hot Water Bottle Cover is a deliciously textured and totally addictive knit worked in Seersucker Stitch, finished with a ribbed 'turtleneck'. This design serves as a skill-building project for beginners looking to level up, incorporating increases, decreases, and charted instructions.

This pattern has been designed specially for my brand new yarn range Springy, available exclusively at Spotlight stores in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Construction:

The hot water bottle cover is worked in the round from the bottom-up in Seersucker stitch. You will make increases to shape the base of the cover as well as decreases to shape the top. The folded ‘neck’ is worked in 2x2 rib and bound off using a stretchy bind off. You will then use the horizontal mattress stitch to close the opening at the base.

Let's begin!

Using 6mm circular needles, CO 48 sts using your preferred method. Join in the round and place BOR marker.

Set up round: *K1, [p1, k1] 11 times, k1*, PM, rep *-* to end of the round.

You will now begin making increases to shape the base of the cover. You will follow the chart below to work the increases.

Next 7 rounds: *Work next round of the chart*, SM, rep *-* to end of the round.

You should now have 64 sts.

You will now begin working straight in Seersucker stitch with no shaping.

Repeat the following rounds 7 times (total of 56 rounds):

Rounds 1-2: *K1, p1*, rep *-* to end of the round.

Rounds 3-4: *P1, k3*, rep *-* to end of the round.

Round 5-6: *K1, p1*, rep *-* to end of the round.

Rounds 7-8: *K2, p1, k1*, rep *-* to end of the round.

You will now begin making decreases to shape the top of the cover. You may need to switch to a shorter cord or use the Magic Loop method as your stitch count begins to decrease.

Next 6 rounds: *Work next round of the chart*, SM, rep *-* to end of the round.

You should now have 40 sts.

Switch to 5mm needles.

Next 32 rounds: *K2, p2*, rep *-* to end of the round.

BO all sts in pattern using Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off

Finishing

Close the opening at the base using the Horizontal Mattress Stitch.

Weave in all loose ends.
